One of the most important events of the year is approaching: Election Day, Tuesday November 7. What happens on this day will likely dictate the course of our nation for the next 10 years!

Now is the time to scrutinize the positions of those running for office and support candidates who pledge to stand for pro-family, pro-life, and core American values. Once you have reached a solid understanding of the candidates on your ballot, share your findings with your local friends and loved ones.

Often voters have made firm decisions on "top of the ticket" elections—and pick randomly for the rest! But these elections are the ones impacting you most closely: school board, district judges, city councilmen, and others. Don't let them be elected by chance. Find out where the candidates stand, and then spread the word. Call the Center for tips!

This is one of the best opportunities for one person to make a real difference, and that person can be you!

    Action Item

Most states require that you be registered at least 30 days before the election in which you wish to vote. Take the time to do two things: make sure that your personal voter registration is valid, and then ask five friends or relatives if their registrations are up-to-date. You may be surprised by how many have moved, gotten married, or turned 18 and are not properly registered to vote in November.

Making a Difference ... for Life

    Dear

The world around us is always changing, but some things remain the same--one of those being our Christian duty to vote.

I challenge you to think about three recent events:

For years we, as Christians, have hoped and prayed for righteous Supreme Court judges. In just the last year we have seen that prayer answered through the nomination and confirmation of Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. and Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. Who put them in office? Elected officials.

In November, this new Supreme Court will take up the case of our nation's Partial Birth Abortion Ban, which was passed by elected officials.

This month's Community Leader Profile takes a look at South Dakota's ban on abortion. This ban is a very real, tangible threat to Roe v. Wade and the resulting 33 years of death sentences for unborn Americans. Who passed this legislation? Elected officials. How will it remain South Dakota law? By South Dakotans voting for it in November.

These are all important, nation-impacting victories!

    Don't be discouraged

There won't always be a marriage amendment on the ballot to get you to the polls. The results won't always seem like a victory. You won't always see immediate results from the impact of your vote.

But if you're not happy with your choices, don't sit at home moping on Election Day. Exercise your freedom to vote and see what you can do to change your options in the future.

We are often encouraged to be faithful in the small things. Voting may seem like a small thing, but it is your thing, and Americans nationwide, taking part in this small thing, are responsible for the victories I mentioned earlier. Be faithful to what is yours: vote and pray.
